August Outing:
An Outing is to be held at the Chief Claim, in Holcomb Valley, the weekend of AUGUST 14th thru 16th. The Claim is at 7200 ft. Temps should be in the low 80’s in the day and 50’s at night.
The gold on the claim is very fine. To aid in its recovery, a recycling Gold Cube is setup. Two 100-gallon tubs will be setup under a canopy. Beginner need only a shovel and buckers. I use 3.5-gallon buckets. They can be ordered at the Service Desk at Home Depot. Fiver gallon buckets work fine, but when filled, are too heavy for me. I use the 3.5 gallon buckets. Even with these I fill them only half way when carrying them more than a few feet. Your pay should be classified to #8 (1/8 inch), a requirement for the Gold Cube. Bring plenty of buckets. I will be able help you transport the pay back to camp in my truck.
The pay is found in a layer of rosy quartz sand. I have a lean-to classifier to speed classification, that can be shared. It is dry enough to run a dry washer, but may require a couple of strips through. Dirt can be dried on a vapor proof tarp. 12 gallon of dirt can be dried in the sun on a 10x10 foot tarp. To avoid damage to your tarp use a soft leaf rake to spread and turn the dirt over.
