Rules for this year's contest are not the same as previous years:
● Round 1: 24 competitors. Fastest 4 times move on to the finals. (Gold from this round must be returned to the club.)
● Round 2: 4 finalists. Fastest time wins. (Gold from this round is kept by the competitors.)
● Youth Competition will have up to 12 competitors in round one and 4 in round two
Procedure
1. Mix pre-measured material into a gold pan.
2. Add gold and targets last, stir lightly. (Round 1 competitors will get to see the targets to be recovered.)
3. Starter and judges prepare clipboards with competitors names and a space for the finishing time.
4. Judges record time after cap is on vial and competitor yells DONE, TIME, FINISHED, etc...
5. Placement will be determined by the number of targets recovered and then time. The contestant with the fastest full recovery will win. Keep black and blond sand in the vial to a minimum! The recovered targets must be visible through any foreign material (sand) without removing them from the vial. See tiebreaker below.
6. Replace pans & prep tubs between rounds.
● Tie-breaker: Upon an exact tie, a judge will
inspect the vials based on cleanliness of the finds: Meaning if two competitors finish in 2
minutes and 5 seconds (2:05 for example), the competitor who has less black sand and
other foreign material in the vial after time is called will be considered the winner.
● Round Cut Offs: Round 1 has a cut off time of 10 minutes and if competitors do not have
their vial closed and call time before this then the competitor is disqualified
● Round 2 will have an extended time cut off of 15 minutes.
● There are no approved outside support items allowed in this year’s competition. i.e., head lamps, tweezers, magnets, etc.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL PANNERS!
