Claim Owner: Most recently Placer Pete is up to a new adventure. This time Steve’s interests have taken him to the Mojave Desert in the vicinity north of Barstow known generically as Coolgardie. That is only a 15 minute drive from PCSC’s Desert Queen Bee. The high desert may lack a waterway like the East Fork, but it certainly does not lack in golden goody adventures. Steve discussed with PCSC President, Joe Chmiel, an invitation for PCSC members to enjoy a weekend at his claim! The tentative dates are April 26-27-28. Learn more about this opportunity at the upcoming PCSC meeting on March 15th. Also monitor PCSC’s website for news updates as details are worked out. See also Joe Chmiel’s Prez Sez article beginning at p.7 of this Treasure News issue.  More information about Placer Pete currently in March's Treasure news.

    From Joe our Pres.:

(September Prospecting Outing Revealed:Hello all! I trust you are excited to attend another great outing because after a hot summer it's time to get back into the swing of things. (I hope you appreciated my attempt at metal detecting humor.)  We will be camping at the Pilgrim Claim near Randsburg on September 28, 29 & 30. If you haven't been there before, the map is available on the club's website or you can meet up with any number of club members to follow them to the claim. Just inquire at the club meeting on the 21st if you need help.  The Pilgrim Claim is easily accessible with any vehicle that still runs and it has plenty of space for RVs and tents. There will be a port-a-potty on site but if that is not enough luxury for you, Ridgecrest has motels about 20 minutes away.  Martin has concocted an even grander 'coin hunt' than ever before so be sure not to be late to that event (see additional details in next topic). It is sure to be a crowd pleaser and the time will be announced.

The potluck will take place on Saturday evening at about 6pm and I will be smoking some of my world famous tri-tip to serve up at dinner. Bring whatever dish you think will be enjoyed, whether main, side or dessert. We have access to several club claims in the vicinity and I can tell you there is gold on all of them. So bring your favorite method of prospecting along and have at it. Just remember that if you are new or don't have equipment, that you should not be shy about asking to borrow. There is plenty of equipment floating around among various club members, so contact me if you need to borrow something and I will see if we can make it happen.  Also remember that with September comes cooler weather... just not here! So plan accordingly because heat stroke is no joke. I know that this will be a fun outing so I hope to see a lot of you out there! Take care. Oh... and my phone number is in this addition of treasure news)

Alberto who runs our beach and park coin hunts has had to change the date on our next coin hunt from July 20th to August 18th.

A location will be posted in our July Treasure news.

I will update this news blog once I have any more information.

Update on our next Coin Hunt

The July coin hunt will be on August 18th because I had to be out of town the month of July,  it is going to be at the beach ( Santa Monica Beach north of the pier). With our current heat wave lots of people are attending the beach and this gives us even more of an opportunity to find some exciting treasures. I will give  more details at our monthly club meeting on the August 17.  The coin hunt is going to be on Saturday August 18, at 10:00 AM

News from our very own Lucky Joe:

    September Prospecting Outing

I don't know if the desert will have cooled off by then but those of you who are willing to find out should not miss our September 22,23,24 outing. The Barstow area has been home to hundreds of nuggets which many of our club members have had the pleasure of removing. One club member practically tripped over a sun-baker at our last outing to this area and I'm certain there is much more gold to be had. I think the best chances with a detector in this area is to either dig down to the caliche layer on the Desert Queen Bee to detect among the ironstones or just swing on the surface in the areas surrounding the claims. You won't need 4-wheel drive to get to the claims, which are about 30 minutes out of Barstow. And if you haven't been here before, consider joining us for some good times and good prospecting. I think we can do a potluck on Saturday evening out at the Shamrock around 6pm and just bring a main, side or dessert dish to share. That's all for now and as usual I can be reached at 562-999-2428 for any questions. Joe

IMPORTANT:  The highest court in the land has just requested briefing from the U.S. Solicitor General on whether or not it should grant a writ of review in the Rinehart case!!!  Attorney James Buchal reports that if the U.S. Solicitor General files a brief in support of acceptance of the petition, "the chances that the Supreme Court will take the case go up very significantly."

Listen up my fellow nugget heads:  This is the time to forget about whatever Honey Do List you are working on.  If you can write a sentence, or better, if you can afford a stamp and can type a sentence IN YOUR OWN WORDS TO PRESIDENT TRUMP as to how important this case is, then do so NOW.  Don't worry about your grammar or punctuation.  Just express yourself in the unique and genuine way that only you can.  Tell President Trump how you have suffered under your California overseers.  They have taken away a property right that the federal government has guaranteed to you.  There is a relatively short period for the (current) Acting Solicitor General to get his brief filed.  He needs to be told by his boss ASAP how miners feel about the importance of this case so that states like California can't keep prohibiting owners of federal mining rights from operating their own claims on federal lands without any hope of economic survival in areas that largely have few alternative economic opportunities!

Let's not sit on our hands.  Let's get some justice!  Get something in the mail by tomorrow if you possibly can!!

Thanks for listening to my rant.
